=====S1. INTRODUCTION TO S.C.ITALIAN
==Q1.1= How was s.c.i. created, and why?
Last modified: January 30 1994
From messages from Massimo Poesio <poesio@cs.rochester.edu> and
Massimo Marchi <marchi@gold.cchem.berkeley.edu>
in primo luogo "to discuss opera and pasta dishes".
==Q1.2= Who is known as 'mamma' of s.c.i?
Last modified: July 3 1993
This title belongs to Barbara Di Eugenio as she was the first
to vote for the creation of this newsgroup.
==Q1.3= What are the rules for writing a posting on s.c.i?
Last modified: June 30 1993
==Q1.4= Can I start a discussion about soccer ("calcio") on s.c.i?
Last modified: June 17 1993
To talk about soccer is not forbidden. There have been flame
wars in the past and many netters think that although soccer is
part of the Italian culture long discussions of the topic belong
to rec.sport.soccer. Somebody of course thinks that soccer is
not culture and that it is even degrading to talk about it but
they are not forced to listen to you if you decide to post
something about soccer. There are kill files that allow any
user to filter out specific topics. It is important then
to remember that a meaningful subject for your posting is
always useful both for those looking for that information and
for those looking to avoid that information.
==Q1.5= How many people read s.c.i?
Last modified: June 7 1993
This is an excerpt from "USENET readership report" for May 1993.
The compete document, as well as the explanation of how they got these
numbers is posted periodically on news.groups and news.lists.
+-- Estimated total number of people who read the group, worldwide.
| +--- Actual number of readers in sampled population
| | +-- Propagation: how many sites receive this group at all
| | | +-- Recent traffic (messages per month)

==Q1.6= Are there other ways to talk in Italian with people on
======= Internet?
Last modified: June 10 1993
There are no other Usenet newsgroups where the Italian language
is appropriate. However there are mailing lists in Italian.
MARIO is a MAiling list "Ragionevolmente Italiana d'Oltreconfine"
To get more information write to LISTSERV@SEARN.SUNET.SE with the following
text in the message:
GET MARIO INFO
LANGIT "Discussione centri linguistici Italiani" is another mailing list
in Italian. It originates in Italy from LISTSERV@ICINECA.BITNET.
I do not know much about it.
If you just want to have a chat with a group of people, then
irc is an international network servicing 20 or more countries.
irc is a multi-user, multi-channel chatting network. It allows
people all over the Internet to talk to one another in real-time.
Each irc user has a nickname. All communication with other users
is either by nickname or by the channel that they or you are on.
If you have a server that runs irc, then look for a channel
called Italia, it is almost always active!
On May 23 1993 there was a large reunion of irc chatters in Parma,
and it was a great success.
